What’s in a Name?
Our name represents a powerful shift in modern medicine—one that embraces the potential of natural remedies alongside conventional treatments. This movement, led by integrative and functional medicine, honours the wisdom of nature as much as science.
The story begins in the 1700s with Mrs. Hutton, a mysterious woman in England, known to many as a "witch" because of her remarkable ability to heal. She was famous for treating what seemed to be an impossible condition at the time: heart failure caused by illnesses like Strep throat and scarlet fever. Her secret? An herbal concoction derived from the Foxglove plant.
One of her patients spoke to their physician, Dr. William Withering, about her miraculous cures. Intrigued, the doctor sought her out, determined to understand this so-called "witchcraft." After studying her remedy, Dr. Withering suspected that the active ingredient was Foxglove. In 1785, he conducted a small trial on 160 heart failure patients. His findings laid the foundation for Digoxin, a life-saving medication derived from the Foxglove plant that is still used today to treat heart conditions.
At Doctor Foxglove, we honour this legacy by blending the best of nature and science, empowering you to take control of your health.
